20th Century Fox has released the latest trailer for Ridley Scott’s upcoming science-fiction film The Martian. Starring Matt Damon and based on Andy Weir’s 2011 novel of the same name, the film depicts a manned mission to Mars as astronaut Mark Watney (Damon) — presumed dead after being caught in a fierce storm — is left behind by the rest of the evacuating crew as they escape back to Earth. After finding himself stranded and completely alone, Watney has to use what little supplies he has and his own ingenuity to survive on the distant planet as NASA and a team of international scientists mount a seemingly impossible mission to bring him home. Featuring a star-studded cast that includes Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara, Michael Peña, Jeff Daniels, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Donald Glover, The Martian is set to hit theaters October 2.
