Director Wes Craven Passes Away at 76
The director was famed for his ‘Scream’ and ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ films.

American film director, producer, writer and actor Wes Craven, aged 76, has passed away. Born Wesley Earl Craven, the famed director was highly acclaimed for iconic horror films like the A Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream franchises, and for discovering talent like Johnny Depp, Bruce Willis and Sharon Stone. Family announced that Craven passed away quietly in his home in Los Angeles after a long battle with brain cancer. Craven grew up in the suburbs of Cleveland and put forth his first feature film, The Last House of the Left, in 1972, which he directed, wrote and edited himself. His subsequent Elm Street and Scream movies, along with classic characters like Freddy Krueger, re-imagined the teen horror genre and continue to be referenced in pop culture today. Craven’s other work include The Hills Have Eyes, Red Eye, and a segment in Paris Je T’aime. We give our condolences to Craven’s friends and family.
