This Coffee Table Can Expand Like an Accordion
Transformable furniture: why did nobody think of this before?
New York-based kinetic artist Ian Stell has created a coffee table that can expand to a user’s needs, thanks to an ingenious hinged lattice system. Having created a 3D model of the table on a computer with precise measurements, Stell machined the Sinan table out of oak slats joined with brass rods, created with a miniscule tolerance of 0.005 inches for buttery smooth action. “Mutability in a piece of furniture should serve a purpose, but the act of transformation should be a kind of dance,” Ian Stell writes on his website.
