The Top Songs on Spotify in Every Country in the World

Amateur cartographer Eliot Van Buskirk has unveiled an interactive online map of the countries of the world, with countries where Spotify is popular highlighted a certain color reflecting the top song of that country currently. From first glance, the world’s musical taste is worryingly narrow, given that Major Lazer’s ”Lean On” is the top track in close to two dozen countries for which data is available, including Mexico, Ireland, Hungary, Malaysia and Australia. Otherwise, the top song in the U.S. is “Trap Queen” by Fetty Wap, and “Cheerleader” by OMI in the UK, whilst Avicii’s “Waiting For Love” reigns in Scandanavia. Meanwhile, in the Spanish-speaking world, Nicky Jam and Enrique Inglesias’ “El Perdón” takes top spot.
