As a part of The National Gallery’s summer exhibition, they’ve partnered with a select group of musicians to write new pieces in response to specific works displayed in the museum. The artists’ composing new work include Nico Muhly, Susan Philipsz, Gabriel Yared, Chris Watson, Janet Cardiff, George Bures Miller, and Jamie xx.
This morning, The National Gallery released a video discussing Jamie xx’s piece that coincides with Théo van Rysselberghe’s painting “Coastal Scene.” Jamie’s focus was to create music emulating van Rysselberghe’s process, known as the Pointillist painting technique. The video depicts the similarities in both works’ composition and explains how they compliment each other for museum visitors. Check it out above.
