Margaret Howell x Tate Britain Capsule Dedicated to Barbara Hepworth
Margaret Howell commemorates the work of modernist sculptor Barbara Hepworth in true utilitarian fashion.

Contemporary fashion designer Margaret Howell has teamed up with London-based art gallery Tate Britain to co-create a capsule collection in recognition of the work by modernist sculptor Barbara Hepworth. In anticipation of Tate’s long awaited retrospective exhibition that will gazette some of Hepworth’s original pieces from the 1960s and ’70s, Margaret Howell reveals that she “was always inspired by what she (Hepworth) wore” and has translated this through each new piece. The collection is riddled with utilitarian references from its color palette, choice of hard wearing fabrics and box-like tailoring. Featuring a white, square cut jacket, a worn denim smock, an organic military-esque duffle coat, loose fitting dungarees, a banded apron and finally two silk scarves that help balance the collection.
Barbara Hepworth: Sculpture for a Modern World will be shown at the Tate Britain from June 24 with the Margaret Howell collection being made available online as early as June 19.
