Planted in the plush greenery of McLean, Virginia, the Bridge House is meant to address the concept of ‘views’ in enclosed, wooded areas. The architecture firm behind the design – Höweler+Yoon – aimed to resolve this conundrum by addressing the various peaks and valleys of the surrounding area, creating an alternative to traditional setups. Conceptually then, the house is built around three main spaces: a bedroom volume, living volume, and a “bar” of bedrooms that split the two, all of which are split into distinct levels. At the ground floor, the entrance is guised by thick Southern grass, which seems to engulf the entirety of the living area given the oversized glass windows and use of wooden motifs.
