In a market of fast emerging competitors, Spotify has announced the launch of a slew of additional features, including video content, podcasts, news, original programming and new running playlists. Launching on iOS platforms in the U.S. today, the new release will include original and rebroadcasted shows from Vice News, BBC, NBC, Slate, E!, Adult Swim, MTV, Comedy Central, ESPN, Condé Nast and TED. Additionally, podcasts from WNYC, American Public Media, BBC, PRX and others, as well as exclusive radio shows presented by artists such as Tyler, the Creator and Odd Future, Icona Pop, Jungle and Mike Skinner will be available.
Two new playlist-orientated features will also be added — Spotify Now and Spotify Running. The former will sync playlist with different times during the day and generate playlist accordingly. Spotify Running will find songs which match the pace and tempo of a user’s exercise, and will include commissioned original songs from artists such as Tiësto to boost any workout.
Not to be outdone by competitors, the press conference also included a performance by D’Angelo with Questlove on drums. Take a look at the promotional videos below, and visit Pitchfork for more information.
