The LEGO Group and The Pokémon Company International have officially unveiled the new LEGO Pokémon SMART Play sets. This innovative hardware-backed line transforms traditional block-building into an interactive training experience, allowing builders to step directly into the role of a Pokémon Trainer. By bridging physical building with immersive, screen-free technology, the collection gives fans a completely fresh way to nurture, train, and battle their favorite brick-built creatures.
At the absolute core of the new collection is the proprietary LEGO SMART Play System. Driven entirely by the screenless LEGO SMART Brick, the system utilizes more than twenty patented, world-first technologies to respond dynamically to physical interaction through custom light, sound, motion, and sensing features. Builders can attach specialized SMART Tags to specific elements—such as a brick-built treat to feed Pikachu or a tickling motion to prompt a laugh from Charizard—deepening their bond with the Pokémon as they gear up for battles against friends.
The extensive rollout consists of two distinct build categories: All-in-One sets and Compatible sets. The All-in-One options include the Training House with Pikachu and the Charizard vs. Jolteon Ultimate Battle, both of which come pre-packaged with the core SMART Brick hardware, a SMART Charger, and individual tags. Meanwhile, the ten standalone Compatible sets—spanning environments like Berry Bash with Bulbasaur and Bidoof, Drone Search for Mythical Mew, and Mewtwo’s Lab Break—are designed to expand the play environment by adding new characters and unique interactive tags to pre-existing setups.
To celebrate the retail launch, select physical retail locations will temporarily transform into in-game PokéStops and Gyms for a localized event. Running through late summer, the retail experience will grant players access to exclusive digital backgrounds, physical stickers, in-game branded apparel, and real-time product play demonstrations.
The LEGO Pokémon SMART Play sets are available for pre-order starting today via the Pokémon Center and official online channels, with a full global retail launch scheduled for August 1, 2026, across LEGO Stores and select global stockists. Pre-orders placed through the Pokémon Center over a specific price threshold will also receive an exclusive Ditto as Squirtle: Movie Night gift-with-purchase set while supplies last.
