In a move that should delight gamers around the world, virtual reality company Oculus has finally announced a release date for the consumer version of its Rift headset. The Oculus Rift will be available for pre-order later this year, and is due to ship in the first quarter of 2016. The product first launched on Kickstarter back in 2012 and has seen several design iterations and prototypes since then, before developers finally settled on a final design just recently. Final specs are still to be released by Oculus, including the price, but assumptions can be made based on the fact the second-generation Rift development kit went on sale for $350 USD last year, and Oculus’ co-founders have said they would like the product to stay in the $200 to $400 USD range.
