Amidst reports that Net-a-Porter has merged with YOOX, the online fashion retailer has unveiled a potentially game-changing social network application where users can both share their latest fashion trends, and purchase luxury goods via their mobile devices. Titled “The Net Set,” the app aims to merge Instagram capabilities and the online shopping experience into one. Users, brands and fashion personalities alike are able to like, comment and share posts, but can also purchase items directly through the app (if the item is on sale on Net-a-Porter) without having to go through a third-party website. Furthermore, innovative built-in technology helps identify garments that are in other user’s images. With regards to the app’s launch Net-a-Porter founder Natalie Massenet revealed, “We are incredibly excited to launch the world’s first luxury shippable mobile social network where fashionable digital women all over the world can connect and enjoy a unique and seamless shopping experience across all devices. The rise of social media and style blogs has shown that women around the world are inspired by each other’s styles and closets.” “The Net Set” will be available on iPhone, iPad, and the Apple Watch starting May 13.
