Modern Rocks Gallery Unveils Never Before Seen Nirvana Photographs

Austin-based photographer Kirk Weddle has unveiled a full collection of never before seen photographs of Nirvana from his photoshoot with the band in 1991. Part of Weddle’s catalog of imagery, some of which would go on to be used as artwork for the iconic Nevermind album, show Kurt Cobain, along with bandmates Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic in a Los Angeles swimming pool. “Kurt was like, ‘Fuck! I have to get in the pool? He was not a water guy at all” remembers Weddle. Explaining the reason why the photographs have remained unreleased until now he adds, “I’ve just kept them stacked in a closet, unorganized.”

Steven Walker, owner of the gallery who have helped bring the photographs to the public, explains the importance of the work: “These images are incredibly important. They’re an important piece of rock history, and they also mean a lot to me personally as a musician and as a fan. They show a band on the verge of changing the face of music, a band about to conquer the world, a band about to release something that was to become one of the most influential albums of our time.” A selection of the exclusive prints are available to buy from Modern Rocks Gallery now.
