HYPEBEAST Tested Microsoft's "How Old Do I Look?" App With 15 Usual Suspects
“The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist,” says conman

“The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist,” says conman Kint, who was played by Kevin Spacey in the 1995 crime thriller The Usual Suspects. The quote is a nod at the idea that we often refuse to admit that there’s evil around us, acting as we please with little regard for consequences. While “evil” might be a strong word to describe vanity, there’s no denying that some go to great lengths to achieve their idea of perfection. Coincidentally, one of the greatest tricks the human ever pulled was to fool the world about his age. With all the cosmetic surgery available, this trick isn’t exactly hard to pull off. Thankfully a large part of the world still veers away from such narcissistic practices, preferring to opt for the word “wise” rather than “old.” Yet, the thought still lingers in the back of our heads, “How old do I come across?”
Adding to the pool of distractions on the Internet is “How Old Do I Look,” an app designed by Microsoft that guesses your age after analyzing 27 points on your face. The app admittedly states that it is still under construction so the accuracy could differ. Understanding the variables, we tested the app with some of the most recognizable faces in fashion, music and pop culture. Rallying up a slew of usual suspects from our latest HYPEBEAST 100 list, along with a few special candidates, we learned that in some instances — such as Lev Tanju, Ronnie Fieg and Pharrell Williams — the app was either spot on or missing the age by one year. Ricardo Tisci, Virgil Abloh and Gigi Hadid were marked up a few years perhaps due to their nasolabial folds, but not at the whopping gap of 16 years, as it appeared for HBA creative director Shayne Oliver. He was said to be 42, but in fact is 26. Adrianne Ho would be pleased to know that she’s been given four years head start, and Hiroshi Fujiwara — a striking 21 years. After decades of recreational cannabis use, Snoop Dogg’s heavy eye-bags and overall droopy look has earned him +10 years, while the gorgeous Bruce Jenner knocked a decade off his seniority – a glitch in part thanks to the reconstructive surgery he’s acquired.
Check the lineup above and let us know how far off you think these estimations are. Head over to “How Old Do I Look” and try out the app to see how well Microsoft knows you.
