Native Instruments Introduces New Open-Source File Format with "Infinite Remix Possibilities"

Native Instruments announced the other day that they have developed an open-source file format for music that is going to make DJs control over music much more efficient. Called Stems, the file format allows producers to export a song as four separate parts which are first contained in a single MP3 or any other common audio file formats and can be replayed by any modern media player. What this means is that DJs will have control over the volume of each separate part, making for “infinite remix possibilities,” as demonstrated in the video above. Whether this new technology is adopted or not, it is always compelling to see new inventions in the digital world propelling music into realms currently unreached. Kudos.
