Maison Margiela has opened a new outpost in Milan, fitted with the usual suspects you’d expect to see in a Margiela store. The nondescript, simple and whitewashed space amalgamates clean lines for modernity with classic architectural elements. Collaborating with Wood-Skin, the Milanese company plays with material possibility on a malleable tile curtain, and creates a space decorated with Haussmannian ceilings, rough concrete, mirrored walls and tiled floors. With over 300 sq. m. of space, the ground floor houses womenswear and accessories while the first floor situates the house’s ”Artisinal” haute couture line as well as shoes. The opening of Maison Margiela’s flagship store in Milan coincides with 54th annual Salone del Mobile fair, and marks John Galliano’s first store opening since being appointed as creative director. Obviously staying true to the Margiela aesthetic, fans will be relieved to see deconstructed shapes and remastered silhouettes that we have come to know and love from the French label.
