Kendrick Lamar’s newest album To Pimp A Butterfly is already off and running with flying colors, garnering massive amounts of critical acclaim just weeks after its release. However, did you know the Compton rapper’s second studio album almost went by another name? In a series of interviews done with MTV, Kendrick reveals the initial title of the album was meant to be To Pimp A Caterpillar. In the clip, Lamar further describes that the abbreviation of the scrapped album title, T P A C, was the abbreviation of iconic rapper Tupac and would need to be changed. Furthermore, the word “pimp” was meant to represent using celebrity power for good, as well as, not being “pimp” by the music industry through Kendrick’s celebrity. Check out the full interview below.
