Montreal rapper Wasiu has already been credited as part of the new wave of artists changing the city’s musical culture, although his upcoming debut album has yet to be given a title or a release date. The up-and-comer rules the mic with confidence, especially in his hot new track “BLKKKOUT.” The track, which was produced by HESK & Paveun, speaks on the prejudice and limited freedoms minorities still experience in today’s society, ending Black History Month with a bang. Wasiu gives detail to the track’s thematic content: “The double entendre is to keep blacks out, so the reaction is to blackout against them wanting to keep the blacks out of their terrain. We’re not happy, we’re not happy accepting the limited freedom, and the limited rights.” Check out the heavy track below and stay tuned for more from Wasiu.
