Snoop Dogg is switching gears from his busy music career to act as a producer on an upcoming family drama series currently being developed by HBO. Snoop announced the project at his keynote speech at SXSW on Friday, with the network confirming the news later. The drama will reportedly be set in early 1980s Los Angeles and depict a family’s struggles through the area of Reaganomics and the crack epidemic. Those familiar with his music will know that Snoop himself grew up during this era in Long Beach, California. The series will be directed by Allen Hughes from The Book of Eli and written by Rodney Barnes of “The Boondocks.” The show is still in early development so no premiere date has been set, but we’ll be sure to share more news on this as it becomes available.
