Nicola Formichetti Launches 'Free' Magazine
Creative director, editor and all-over visionary, Nicola Formichetti is delving into the print

Creative director, editor and all-over visionary, Nicola Formichetti is delving into the print world again — this time with his own magazine, Free. The aptly named magazine is his response to the money and business-fueled world, with the aim of offering something purely creative, all free of charge. Launching on March 17, the magazine is funded by Formichetti and Japanese bookstore Tsutaya, and will be distributed at Tsutaya stores in Japan with the entire print issue available online on its website here. The inaugural issue pays homage to Japan in all forms — with features on Hiroki Nakamura, Yasumasa Morimura, and editorials featuring Japanese models Tao Okamoto and Kiko Mizuhara. Focusing on Japan’s youth culture, Formichetti flew photographer Richard Burbridge out to Tokyo to capture the true essence of the creatives of his home country. Along with Formichetti as creative director, on the masthead are former Vogue Hommes Japan editors Junsuke Yamasaki as editor in chief, and Shun Watanabe as fashion director, with Jacob Wildschioedtz of NR2154 as art director.
