Music Essentials: Shlohmo

For this week’s Music Essentials, we have linked up with Los Angeles musician/beatsmith Henry Laufer, also known as Shlohmo. The 24-year-old founding member of WEDIDIT is known not only for his solo work, but his collaborations with acts like How To Dress Well, Jeremih and more. Instead of showing us his production tools or his favorite lifestyle products like most artists who are part our Essentials or Music Essentials features, Shlohmo switches it up and positions himself as a fan, sharing with us his most inspirational records. He has a refined taste in ’90s R&B, displaying albums from D’Angelo, R. Kelly and Jodeci. You can also find some Southern rap records from Three 6 Mafia and DJ Screw, which he is an avid fan of. Laufer even shares a few releases from his childhood, like Blink-182 and Minor Threat, to illustrate the type of music that effected him in his earlier years. In addition to records, Shlohmo displays several gifts from his girlfriend, VHS tapes that may or may not be playable anymore, and a few of his favorite stickers. Check it out above.
