Revolving around Japanese traditionalism and updating the aesthetic with contemporary elements is the new “Tokyo Sakura Project” from New York’s KITH. Featuring the inclusion of Ronnie Fieg‘s latest work with PUMA — all-new renditions of the R698 — the special drop is highlighted by a collaborative capsule alongside John Elliott + Co., as well as a bevy of new in-house apparel.
Fans can find two iterations of Elliott’s signature Escobar sweatpants alongside a seasonal short-sleeve take on the renowned Villain hoodie, as well as a long-sleeve Mercer tee. While the heather grey styles boast a contrasting burgundy reverse side knit, the speckled navy pieces include white contrasts. As for the Mercer, the tee comes in an exclusive all-white execution to cohesively connect the capsule.
Joining the PUMA and John Elliott + Co. pieces are a bevy of both tops and bottoms: the Gates Noragi hoodie, the Ithaca crew, the Putnam oxford, Vernon tech short, and the Jennings compression pant. The hoodie teems with Japanese sensibility, coupling a single-tie front and slightly oversized build with tri-paneled construction highlighted by hidden zippered side vents. The Ithaca crew, on the other hand, offers a more aggressive approach, pairing angular contours with french terry construction, a squared neckline, scooped hem, and tonal quilted detailing. Finally, the Putnam flips the traditional oxford on its head, employing a hidden dual-zip front closure in place of the prototypical buttoned placket and featuring zippered sleeve cuffs and hidden snaps at the collar. As for bottoms, the Vernon is composed of a cotton-lined poly and sports side-split hems for an athletic appearance while the Jennings features breathable fabric for comfy support and is adorned with 3M trim at both the knee and zippered cuffs.
The entire KITH “Tokyo Sakura Project” will be available this Saturday, March 28, at 11 a.m. EDT at both KITH locations and online at KithNYC.com.
