Amazon in Talks to Buy Net-a-Porter in a Deal Worth €2 Billion EUR

E-commerce giant Amazon is reportedly in talks to buy luxury fashion site Net-a-Porter, in a deal that is thought to be worth in the region of €2 billion ($2.2 billion USD). Net-a-Porter is currently owned by Compagnie Financière Richemont, the same Swiss-based holding company which also owns Cartier, Piaget, Azzedine Alaïa and Van Cleef & Arpels, among others, but this is not the first time Richemont has shopped around for buyers of the Net-a-Porter platform. Amazon, on the other hand, started stocking clothing since 2008, and has added 100 labels in the last year alone including such high-end offerings as Vivienne Westwood and Missoni. It also owns Shopbop.com, a mid to high-end online womenswear retailer. Details about the possible deal are scarce, with both sides refusing to comment at this point, but if it does happen it will definitely mark one of the biggest deals in the history of online fashion retail.
