Scarlett Johansson‘s past forays into the music world have included an album of Tom Waits covers, a Serge Gainsbourg-inspired collaboration with Pete Yorn, and more. Now, the actress has decided to go “super-pop,” fronting a band called The Singles featuring Holly Miranda, Kendra Morris and Julia Haltigan. Este Haim, the oldest of the Haim sisters, is taking over the drums responsibilities. As her main influences, she names the Bangles, the Go-Gos, and Grimes:
“The idea was to write super-pop dance music written and performed by girls. I wanted it to be like those bands: ultra-pop but also a little ironic, a little in on the joke.”
Below you can listen to the group’s first single, aptly titled “Candy,” and pre-order it here.
