KR3W Rights Refused: Charles Peterson
Acclaimed Kurt Cobain photographer Charles Peterson and KR3W are set to release
Acclaimed Kurt Cobain photographer Charles Peterson and KR3W are set to release a capsule collection for the spring. In anticipation, KR3W Rights Refused delivers an introspective video that serves as a preview of the collaboration as well as an introduction to Peterson and his scope of work. The short film brings us to Seattle, WA, the so-called birthplace of the post-punk, grunge rock movement in which Nirvana’s Cobain had unofficially spearheaded. Peterson provides an insightful narrative about his influences, the roots of his practice, and how he developed his own style documenting the underground Seattle scene of the late ’80s. Viewing his work as a combination of art and music together, Peterson remarks about his style, “amidst the chaos of a live show, I wanted to find that sense of grace. I wanted people to experience what it was like being there; the sweat, the noise, being pushed against each other.”
It’s been just over 20 years since Cobain’s untimely passing in 1994. To celebrate his influence, Peterson delved into his personal archives and selected four photographs of the late musician for an exclusive T-shirt collection with KR3W. In doing so, Peterson hopes to present iconic images that resonate with different stories and highlight historical moments in music. Check the video above, and look out for the Charles Peterson x KR3W Rights Refused 2015 spring capsule collection to hit select retailers this February.
