Mark Kushimi‘s new series Forever Drowning is a topographical survey and a mediation on finite moments beneath the surface of the Hawaiian landscape. The Hawaiian photographer documents his relationship with the ocean, a massive entity that has its own concepts of time and space. Under the water, movement is slow, sound is muffled, and it is impossible for humans to live. Despite the threat of the water, it is still serene and beautiful, and exudes a sense of relaxation, These observations were made while exploring the coastlines of O’ahu at varying elevations, from mountain trails to just below the surface of the Pacific Ocean. Currently on display at MŌNO Studios, check out Kushimi’s series until March. For more information, check MŌNO Studios’ website here.
