Essentials: Godfrey Gao for MR PORTER

For our latest Essentials, we teamed up with online fashion mainstay MR PORTER to present pieces from basketball enthusiast, fledgling fashion designer and actor Godfrey Gao. No new name to Taiwan’s film industry, Gao has starred in films such as Bull Fighting, The Queen of SOP and All About Women. Prior to his success on the silver-screen, Gao played basketball for North Vancouver’s Capilano Blues. Standing six feet tall, his natural ability to perform on the court also translated into the fashion wold, taking to runways for high fashion labels, in addition to debuting as the first ever Asian model to front French luxury brand Louis Vuitton. Modeling aside, Gao recently started a brand with friends dubbed Flagship Lifestyle, a streetwear imprint that draws inspiration from his creative tenure. For his Essentials, Gao presents a number of must-have wardrobe staples. Exhibiting an eclectic taste for designer brands, a visvim sweater is paired with a slim-fitted shirt, jeans and Derby shoes, while accessories from A.P.C. and Thom Browne are other examples of Gao’s dapper taste.
