Drake has a rather short history in the culture of battle rap. There was a situation last year, where he challenged Harlem rapper Murda Mook to a rap battle at a club. While these two emcees have yet to “enter the ring,” Drake is supporting King Of The Dot (KOTD)’s Blackout 5 two-day battle rap event, which is going down in Toronto this weekend. Kicking things off, Drizzy made a surprise appearance at the event’s press conference to detail his involvement in the event and also addressed the likelihood of him getting active within the culture of battle rap.
“I would love to enter the scene. It’s tough for me because it’s sort of a no–holds–barred, competitive interaction. The problem is that I have to go back to my life after that too. So I’ve always struggled with that as far as battle rap goes.”
On top of that, there’s also “corporate stuff going on” that prevents him from being all for it, but he remains positive that he will do it eventually, but isn’t quite sure “if Mook deserves it.” He assured everyone that he has a folder in my phone full of bars for somebody one day.” As for the battler rap event, he will hand out an additional $10,000 prize for the winners.
