EA Sports Launches a Competitive Gaming Division
Following the footsteps of Activision Blizzard.

EA Sports has revealed it will be launching an e-sports league led by its Chief Operating Officer Peter Moore. The studio responsible for games such as FIFA, Madden NFL and Battlefield will follow rival Activision Blizzard, who started up its own division back in October, as the latest company to make a serious commitment to the up and coming world of professional gaming. According to EA chief executive Andrew Wilson, “EA’s CGD will seek to build a best-in-class program to centralize our efforts with new events, as well as infrastructure to bring you the world’s preeminent EA competitive experiences,” most likely in a similar manner to how Riot Games has been able to turn its League of Legends franchise into a highly lucrative business. Suddenly, the idea of playing FIFA for hours on end does not seem so unproductive anymore.
