Scheduled to launch on Wednesday, December 9, adidas is gearing up to reveal a new silhouette dubbed the “NMD.” Ahead of its release, the time-honored brand takes us into its archives to recollect on three classic sneakers from the ’80s that served as inspiration for the new design. First up is the Micro Pacer, which debuted in 1984 in conjunction with the Los Angeles Olympics and became the first shoe to feature wearable technology. Next, the 1985 Rising Star called on removable cushion elements, giving runners the flexibility to interchange and customize their sneakers – this particular model recently came back into the spotlight thanks to a Raf Simons collaboration. Lastly, the multi-functional Boston Super which appeared in 1986 showcased versatility as both a trainer and a runner. With very little information about the NMD on adidas’s website, we’re anticipating big news on Wednesday. Be sure to check back for additional updates.
