A Look Inside Tokyo's Top Vintage Americana Specialist Stores
Two sister stores keep the vintage scene alive and well in the capital’s Ueno district.
Japan’s long-held fascination with vintage Americana, combined with the country’s unparalleled expertise in denim production, is hardly a secret. As such, any self-respecting vintage collector has sister stores Hinoya and Sunhouse, both located in Tokyo’s Ueno district, on their itinerary upon visiting Japan. Hinoya is a permanent fixture in the vintage American and Japanese denim scene, as well as stocking its own popular denim line called Burgus Plus & Co. Meanwhile, Sunhouse has established itself as a purveyor of both vintage and contemporary workwear, carrying labels such as visvim, Engineered Garments, and Junya Watanabe MAN. Denim blog Heddels visited both stores to interview their respective managers on Japan’s undying love for vintage, as well as the burgeoning fashion retail scene in Ueno. Check it out in the video above.
