Walt Whitman's Famous Poem Is Transformed Into a Stunning Short Film in the Pacific Northwest
Northwest Axe Company reminds us to never underestimate the common tool.
In our current landscape of Teslas, iPhones, hoverboards and wearable tech, one company brings the spotlight back to the uncomplicated and underestimated tool. Northwest Axe Company is a fine toolmaker based in Seattle that specializes in forging axes, which are handmade with tender loving care in the USA. The company’s new short film, called “Old Ruin,” follows founder and owner Andy Gregory through Washington’s Evergreen forests accompanied by a narration of words from Walt Whitman’s poem “Song of a Broad-Axe,” voiced by Peter Coyote. Inspired by the trusty hatchet, this axe is Gregory’s version of an ”old ruin made new.” The film paints the perfect picture of outdoor living and reminds us that when it’s just you and the elements, a simple tool of wood and steel can do wonders.
