The Great Korean Invasion of Keith Ape
The “It G Ma” rapper drops his official tour documentary.
Keith Ape recently wrapped up the last leg of his tour where the South Korean rapper traveled to major cities in Canada and the U.S. for his first time in North America. International spotlight hit Keith after the release of his Korean and Japanese-infused track “It G Ma” (which stands for “never forget” in Korean), a phrase him and The Cohort crew used to say to greet each other. Cultural appropriation or not, the 21-year-old rapper’s unique sound presents a young streetwear-savvy Korean that infuses Atlanta trap music in an aesthetic that is distinctly foreign. In other words, Keith has successfully showed the world that the East Asian nation is more than capable in producing underground sounds that go beyond the K-pop genre.
Oppa’s tour documentary has now surfaced on Noisey, which follows the young rapper on his North American journey from his various shows to an intimate glimpse of his tour bus with the likes of Dumbfoundead, Waka Flocka Flame, ILoveMakonnen, Ken Rebel and Azizi Gibson, and of course, The Cohort gang.
