Columbus, Ohio boutique shop Sole Classics teams with Vans to release a special edition of the sneaker company’s Sk8-Hi Reissue Zip LX, paying homage to those who made it possible to “travel a man all the way from Wapakoneta, OH on an unprecedented journey to the moon.” The man in reference is, of course, none other than the late Neil Armstrong, who was born in the mentioned city.
Dubbed the “A-8SC,” the shoe’s look revolves around the minimal aesthetics of an astronaut suit, which is evident from the dominant white palette and the stitched American flag on the tongue. Contrasting the almost monochromatic profile are black laces, metallic eyelets, as well as a touch of red on the silhouette’s trademark zipper pull found on the back. Where the whole space theme really comes into play is the use of Outlast technology – a thermal-regulating material originally developed for NASA that absorbs, stores and releases heat that, when used in footwear, helps reduce sweat and odor.
The Sk8-Hi Reissue Zip LX “A-8SC” will be available on January 31 in-store and online at Sole Classics.
