Microsoft has confirmed the acquisition of the Mojang and Minecraft franchise for $2.5 billion USD, but it will continue to make the game available across iOS, Android, and PlayStation in addition to its own Xbox and PC platforms. Founders Markus “Notch” Persson, Carl Manneh and Jakbok Porser are all leaving the company following its sale, citing that Notch shied away from controlling a globally influential market and instead would prefer to work on smaller projects. The decision to sell the company was ultimately made to allow Minecraft to grow, while freeing up the team to pursue other interests.
