Every artist has to start somewhere, and in Lorde‘s case, it was a high school band called And They Were Masked. Like many other teenage bands before them, it wasn’t exactly the most focused, polished effort, but it did allow Lorde a platform to showcase her vocals. Their intentions came from the right place, though, as their Facebook lists influences ranging from Fugazi to Battles to Massive Attack. Recently, music from the band has been tracked down, and now you can hear recordings of what a younger Lorde sounded like. Lorde makes a few appearances on their 11-track release, her voice as sharp as ever.
