Los Angeles-born designer and artist Harold Arandia Jr.’s work, both professional and personal, is a reflection of his travels, nature, culture and friends. Since graduating from Art Center College of Design, Harold has worked with several global companies before moving to Amsterdam and joining the ASICS/Onitsuka Tiger family in January 2012. He brings a unique POV to the team as the only non-Japanese footwear designer, which is skillfully conveyed in his recent designs for the popular trio of Shaw Runner, Burdford and Harandia. More of a polymath than just a designer, Harold has designed footwear, furniture, as had a solo exhibition as a painter, and has even made his own line of handcrafted chocolates. He sat down with HYPEBEAST to discuss his role at ASICS/Onitsuka Tiger, being an American in Europe, and his inspirations.
