Upon the release of the celebrated collaboration between Pigalle and Nike, creative director Stephane Ashpool invited select media family to Paris for a special launch event. In it, the audience was immersed in Ashpool’s artisanal interpretation of basketball; where on a professional level, the game is made a spectacle in grandiose arenas – Ashpool’s idea of the game harkens to the street ballers – for whom basketball is another facet of everyday culture. The designer explains that this idea comes from his background: “My parents come from an artist’s way of doing, but I was a ball player all my life.” The basketball-inspired art exhibition, as well as the performance at the event, are both testament to that vision. We had the opportunity to sit down with Ashpool to discuss his aesthetic vision for the collection, while also exploring the captivating experience that is Pigalle x Nike.
