Vybz Kartel Sentenced to Life in Prison

Last month, Jamaican dancehall icon Vybz Kartel and three associates were found guilty of murdering Clive “Lizard” Williams back in 2011, after a trial that was declared “the longest running criminal hearing in the history of Jamaica’s circuit court system.” Now, the still-prominent star has been sentenced by the Jamaican courts to life in prison for the crime, and he will not be eligible for parole until at least 35 years are served in prison. Since his most recent legal troubles have begun, Kartel’s music has seen a surge in popularity, and despite the verdict his defense team are still planning an appeal.
