Since 1971, J&R Music and Computer World has been a mainstay on Park Row in Lower Manhattan. However, after 43 years in business, the company has decided to close their doors to make way for a new venture. Owners Joe and Rachelle Friedman recently issued an open letter to their customers explaining they would be closing shop in efforts to recreate the space as an “unprecedented retail concept and social mecca.” With further details on the redevelopment set to come in later this year, we have high hopes that the location will have as much of an impact on the area and the culture looking forward as it had during it’s historic run as a J&R retail store.
