SXSW has taken over music headlines this past week, with big names such as Jay Z and Kanye West as well as fresher faces such as Charli XCX and Cashmere Cat all making their way to Austin, Texas in a celebration of music and live performances. Not all of our readers were able to make their way to Texas for the showcase, and we’re sure that the few who were able to make it are keen to relive the celebration of music and its festivities, so we dedicated this edition of our bi-weekly “Homepage Playlist” series to some of the biggest and most promising acts at SXSW this year.
In celebration of The Throne reuniting on stage, we revive some of their individual hip-hop projects, with a remix of Kanye’s “Mercy,” courtesy of Shah’U leading us in before stepping in to a Jay Z Favorite from 2004: “99 Problems,” remixed Benji Boko. Next in the line-up is Childish Major‘s remix of “Collard Greens” from ScHoolboy Q and Kendrick Lamar, followed by A$AP Rocky and Chance the Rapper, before Charli XCX, Little Dragon, Phantogram, Damon Albarn and Cashmere Cat move in to turn down the tempo and switch the playlist’s vibe from hip-hop to something a little more mellow.
