Everyday we talk about what’s new and what it’ll cost, yet it’s rare seeing new currency featured on these viral pages – it’s just not something that happens often. There’s a different feeling in the air today however, as Her Majesty’s Treasury announced a redesigned British pound coin will be introduced in 2017 to help maintain the integrity of its nation’s currency. According to the treasury, the current pound has a 3% forgery rate, meaning about £45 million GBP (approximately $75 million USD) worth are currently in circulation. This new coin will remain roughly the same size as its predecessor, yet its reimagined 12-sided shape – a tribute to the iconic threepenny bit - will make it one of the hardest in the world to fake.
