In celebration of World Water Day this weekend, BNE has tapped Banksy in support of the effort to end the world water crisis – a calamity that has seen water-related diseases kill more people across the globe than any form of violence, including war. While the exact form of the collaboration has yet to be revealed, BNE promises that a collaborative “surprise” will be available at BNE.org this Saturday, March 22 with proceeds going to benefit New York-based non-profit charity: water. Previously, BNE has worked with both Shepard Fairey and Invader on limited edition graphic tees while charity: water has helped more than 3.2 million people gain access to clean, safe drinking water.
EDITOR’S NOTE: Originally herald as a collaboration between BNE and Banksy, the March 22 T-shirt release which saw still blank T-shirts sold at $80 USD a piece was in fact a hoax, further reinforced via a statement from Banksy’s website. BNE who dubbed his actions as a “social experiment” donated the T-shirt earnings — a whopping $35,000 — to charity:water as promised, yet the charity has threatened legal action on BNE’s fraudulent stunt and said the situation was an “incredibly upsetting” note to end World Water Day. Head to Animal New York for a more in-depth piece on the situation.
