New York City’s Chinatown isn’t only an important hub of the Asian American community, but an intersect between other cultures in the Lower East Side and SoHo. Cory Ng and Tommy Leong are sons of this very intersect, and four years ago sought to encourage cycling culture in the developing community. The result is Mott Street Cycles (formerly Strada Customs to this audience), located in the throbbing heart of Chinatown. Situated between family restaurants and slender apartment buildings, the brand’s location at 159 Mott Street adds a boost of diversity to the tucked-away block – yet fits in perfectly. The staff is comprised of locals and natives, making the shop’s mission to bring custom bikes to the city that much more amiable. Through complications with corporate competition, MSC has thrived to create collaborations with Nike, Staple, and even the Pro Era music collective – demonstrating that storied gritty attitude natural to New Yorkers. As we eagerly gear up for spring, head here to explore MSC’s array of options.
