Situated on the top floor of a former textile factory in Montreal’s garment district sits online retailer SSENSE‘s new office, designed by Humà Design. On one side of the space is a common area that includes a large kitchen, play zone, and seating areas equipped with tables and lounge spaces. The other side is filled with a dozen 12-foot long work tables in a large, brightly lit, open space. The contemporary space also lends itself as a studio and a warehouse for the company, and its clean, monochromatic aesthetic makes it a suitable office setting. Constructed with refined materials, one can still see that some original elements of the factory were kept intact such as the exposed concrete, metal pipes and columns. Great attention was given to fine details such as the connections between the added architectural elements and the original structure. The outcome achieves a perfect mix of old and new that complements such an industrial space, thus SSENSE’s new minimalist office suits the company well; it’s progressive, modern, edgy and opulent.
