The story of Moby Dick by Herman Melville has long been considered a great American novel read by scholars and students alike for decades. Its plot is known by many around the world, but how many of us are aware of Melville’s inspirations? One of which took place in the winter of 1820, when a Massachusetts whale ship, the Essex, was sunk by a sperm whale in the Pacific Ocean, leaving only eight survivors – two of which wrote an account of the maritime disaster – which was then turned into a novel by Nathaniel Philbrick in 2000. Nearly two centuries later, this true story will finally hit the silver screen, as Director Ron Howard and Warner Bros. present the first official trailer to In The Heart of the Sea starring Chris Hemsworth and Benjamin Walker. The film is scheduled for release on March 15, 2015.
