Topman Design director Gordon Richarson marveled spectators with a striking repertoire this year at London Collections: Men for its 2014 fall/winter line. Culling inspiration from the wet and sombre British weather, Richardson juxtaposed the pale skinned models with dark and drapey outerwear silhouettes — think oversized leather raincoats and lacquered anoraks. While the collection stays predominantly grungy, hits of blue and red provide uplifting motifs on heavy knitwear pieces and baggy wool pants. Paired with chunky footwear, the collection nods toward Britain’s punk and avant-garde culture of the ’80s, while its satire towards the weather is only affirmed by the resentful faces and damp styling throughout.
