Since being given the keys to the Balenciaga fashion house last year, Alexander Wang had yet to venture into producing a menswear collection for the Spanish luxury label. With Spring 2014, Wang debuts the first ever Balenciaga menswear collection designed and led by his keen aesthetics. The collection is a stark shift from the label’s previous structure under Nicolas Ghesquière, with an introduction of fresh new design elements, such as the sleeveless shirt and ornamental chest-detailing. Balenciaga‘s iconic design past is also referenced, evident through the symbolism behind the maillon connector — an accent also seen upon Wang’s introduction to Balenciaga womenswear, further representing the connection of the label’s design roots with his new perspective.
