Flying in the face of your average racing-inspired timepiece, Swedish manufacturer Halda set out to trump the design of a glorified chronograph with the introduction of its Race Pilot Watch. Meant to be “the juxtaposition of a timepiece that is both state-of-the-art competition device and a celebration of mechanical watchmaking” – often an impossibility – Halda’s unique design allows wearers to swap out digital and mechanical watch face modules as needed. While the digital design includes information from some of the world’s most renowned tracks to calculate the likes of speed and lap times, the mechanical face features an automatic chronograph with a zenith movement and a 50-hour power reserve. The design even includes a specially-created steel case back resonance system that aids in the audibility of the piece’s alarms over the roar of an engine. Available as a complete package or with just a single module, the Race Pilot can be ordered from Halda now via special inquiry.
