It’s been 15 years since we last heard a new album by A Tribe Called Quest. Thanks to Q-Tip, it looks like we will finally hear some new music from the legendary hip-hop outfit for the first time since 1998′s The Love Movement. Tip intends to reassemble the original four members for his next project. During the their reunion show at SXSW last week, the rapper has told Billboard that,
“”hopefully Phife Dog and Ali Shaheed Muhammed will make an appearance on it, and Jarobi (White).”
He already has a concept for his next long-player designed, aiming to reinterpret Afrocentric sounds of the late 80′s/early 90′s popularized by Tribe, Jungle Brothers, Queen Latifah, Public Enemy, and other acts associated with the Universal Zulu Nation:
“The beats are gonna be hard. It’s gonna be traditional, like, Zulu beats… old school Africa Islam tapes, with the drum breaks and shit like that. It’s just got a good drive to it. I’m really excited about it.”
The G.O.O.D. Music associate also revealed that he has been doing production work for Mariah Carey, D’Angelo, and John Legend. Yup, reason enough to get excited.
