In its search to uncover the performance-based needs for football players around the world, Nike aimed to examine all aspects of how the sport is played, from friendly pick-up games to professional matches between rival countries. What Nike and its VP of Football Footwear, Phil McCartney, have noticed is that “as the global population increases, spaces to play 11-a-side are more difficult to come by. We’ve seen a huge increase in players playing more small-sided games, because it’s that much easier to access.” McCartney continues to simply say, “It’s up to us at Nike to serve those players with the right product for these different surfaces.” The result is the Nike Football FC247 Collection – a range of performance- and street-inspired footwear tailored to the variety of surfaces on which the game is played, each featuring design innovations specific to the respective playing style. In the said range the athlete-first brand has manufactured three models that offer a balance of speed, control, comfort and precision, thus allowing players to amplify their skills on specific surfaces.

We first look at the Bomba Finale II in a bold orange and black color combination. Befitting for the traditional field of grass that football is use to, this model features a lighter construction compared to its original, conical studs for quick rotation, the imaginative ‘NIKESKIN’ – a polyurethane skin layered over performance mesh – and lastly, Nike’s All Conditions Control (ACC) technology for consistent ball control in dry and wet conditions. Next we examine the dynamic Elastico Finale II in a green and pink colorway. This trainer offers a silhouette that has been designed specifically for hard courts with the introduction of a flexible outsole, NIKESKIN technology, and a herringbone and dot design to help maximize traction as well as improve underfoot ball control. Lastly, Nike provides a glimpse to its street-appropriate model the Lunar Gato II in blue and yellow. Designed for a fast and dynamic game on all surfaces, the soft and supple leather upper improves the ball-to-foot feel and eliminates a break-in period. Additional details to the Lunar Gato include a contoured sock liner and fused mesh panels to maximize lateral support.

The Nike Football FC247 Collection will be available at Nike.com and retail outlets beginning March 28.
